The Lads' Club - About UsThe Lads' Club

  • About Us
  • The Lads’ Club was formed in 1917, meeting four evenings a week in a room attached to Castle Lodge offered by the Misses Deedes. On the 4th March 1925, the lads received their own building through the generous gift of Lady Lucy (see photo) of £400. The building was mainly of a timber construction on a brick and concrete foundation.
  • The Lads' Club Today
  • The Lads' Club is a hub of activity. It provides a much needed venue for a wide variety of activities and worthy causes.
  • Our Development Project has been approved. Funds have been raised and building is due to start in June 2020, but we are short of money to complete the project. A donation, however small, can help us make up the shortfall of £35,000. If you can help please make a donation for this very worthwhile cause.

  • Why we are redeveloping The Lads’ Club
  • The Hall has been part of our Village life for nearly 100 years, now currently provides a venue for a wide range of activities.
  • Regular use includes: 2 Art Groups, 5 Yoga & Keep Fit Classes, Scouts Group of 90 plus, Toddlers Group supporting 25 families. Held each month are Messy Church, Cinema Club, W.I. and Supper Club.
  • Numbers using the Hall each week iare in excess of 200 persons increasing to over 400 each month.
  • The redevelopment of the building will provide a side extension with windows having views across the adjoining meadow. A larger relocated kitchen will improve the catering facilities and also give a main hall which will be better suited to our users' activities.
  • In addition an increased area for safer storage of the hall equipment and disabled access ramp to the original front entrance
